I submitted my proposal to my supervisor for the third time with certainty that I had done a great job this time around.

I went back to her office some days later to get feedback on the proposal. After exchanging pleasantries, she handed over the reviewed proposal with a lot of comments.

All my energy left me as I wondered if I could continue with the project. Yet, I knew that I wouldn’t be graduating if I did not complete the research work.

While she explained the corrections, tears filled my eyes. She looked up and said, “are you crying?”

“Ma, I’m tired,” I responded. “I didn’t expect this many corrections again.”

She looked at me and laughed. “I’m hoping for a solid research project from you. I don’t want you to end up with a paper you wouldn’t be able to publish. Do you want to publish this work?”

“Yes ma,” I replied.

“Then try and implement these corrections.”

I almost gave up on myself. However, as I left her office, I had one goal in mind: to have my paper published.

I felt like I had enough fuel in me to pursue this goal with the sense of purpose she gave me.

Sometimes, as nurses, we need someone to pat our backs and say, “You can do it,” giving us hope where there is none or strengthening our sense of purpose when we feel like giving up.

Have you ever had to cry as a young nurse or a student nurse?

Have you been frustrated at work or in school?

Have you had moments where you only needed someone to say to you, “I’ve been through this before, and I know you can too”?

Are there moments where you tried to seek advice and guidance from mentors in nursing, but you found none?

Wipe your tears!

FYNI is here to support you all the way.

As part of our initiatives to help young nurses discover their potentials as they journey through the profession, FYNI is organizing a series of webinars that take the form of interview sessions that features Nurses from two different generations (a younger and an older nurse.)

It promises to be educative and inspiring! You don’t want to miss this extraordinary opportunity.
